August 15, 2004: Veteran politician and freedom fighter Paul Joseph Ngei dies in a Nairobi hospital aged 81. Mr. Ngei was among the famous “Kapenguria six” who were tried and detained in October 1952 together with Mzee Kenyatta for leading the Mau Mau movement. Mr. Ngei was Minister in Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s and President Daniel Moi’s governments and a long serving Member of parliament. Here, minister for Environment and Natural resources Mr. Joseph Paul Ngei (right) congratulates the new Machakos Kanu Branch chairman Mr. Joseph Mulu Mutisya, after Kanu elections held in Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on June 28, 1985.
