October 31, 1981: Runaway Kenya political personality Miss Chelagat Mutai is in Tanzania and has been there for at least two weeks, reliable Tanzanian sources reveals. She arrived in Arusha in Northern Tanzania in early October and despite official denials is still in the country. Reports reaching here from Dar es Salaam quoted officials as saying Miss Mutai was not in Tanzania but I am assured that these official denials are merely to cover Tanzanian Government embarrassment while they decide what, if anything, they ,decide to do. Tanzanian sources say there has been no request from Kenya to return Miss Mutai to Nairobi nor do they expect one .She has now left Arusha and is staying “somewhere in Tanzania privately with friends. Miss Chelagat jumped bail in a case in which she was accused of making false mileage claims while being MP for Eldoret North.
