December 29, 1991: Mwai Kibaki (right) and other leaders say they will launch a political party to oppose the ruling party Kanu. A brief statement released after three and half hours consultative meeting at the Jacaranda Hotel, Nairobi said consultations over the new party are in progress. The statement was signed by Mwi Kibaki who resigned last week as Health Minister, A nominated MP John Keen (centre) and a former Minister for Works, Housing and Physical Planning Mr. Eliud Mwamunga (left). Mr. Keen was dismissed by President Moi as an Assistant Minister in the office of the President last October. Mr. Mwamunga lost the Voi Parliamentary seat in 1988 to Mr. Adiel Kachila.
