December 27, 1991: Geoffrey Karekia Kariithi, (Left) An Assistant Minister for Tourism and Wildlife resigns from Government. In his resignation letter, he said the government had failed to publicly absolve him from trumped up charges that he was rigged out in the 1988 Kanu elections and that the government had continued to support personalities who had made its name stink in Kirinyaga. Mr. Kariithi’s departure come on the heels of the resignation of Mr. Mwai Kibaki as Health Minister. The resignation was accepted by President Daniel Arap Moi. Seen here with his successor Mr. Jeremiah Gitau Kiereini at a farewell party hosted on his behalf when he retired as head of civil service in October 1979. Looking on are their wifes.
