September 16, 1986: President Daniel arap Moi pardons the Nakuru West MP. Mr. Njenga Mungai (left) who had been barred by Kenya Africa National Union (KANU) from holding public meetings in his constituency. The President announced the decision when he received Kanu delegation from Nakuru District at his Kabarak home. It was led by the branch Chairman Mr. Kariuki Chotara. The president told the MP to go back to his constituency and sing the Nyayo tune. And after his speech, he gave Mr. Mungai a chance to address the meeting. The MP said he had gone astray politically and promised to keep to the right path. “ I was ostracised man and people even feared shaking hands with me. I swear before the President and God today that I shall be a true Nyayo follower and I will defend the Government at all times.
