November 15, 1979: Anglican Archbishop of the Church of the Province of Kenya, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Festo Habakkuk Olang retires, it was announced in Nairobi. Announcing the retirement, the Dean of the Provincial Church’s Synod, the Rt. Rev. Peter Mwang’ombe, told a Press conference that Dr. Olang voluntarily retired from office last Saturday after attaining the age of 65. This was in accordance with the church’s constitution, the dean said. . “Preparations are also being made in accordance with the constitution to elect Dr. Olang’s successor. Meanwhile, it falls upon me as the dean to carry out the Archbishop’s duties,” Bishop Mwang’ombe said. Saying that the church had accepted the Archbishop’s ‘retirement, Bishop Mwang’ombe said the retirement had nothing to do with recent confusion in Nairobi Diocese.
