October 25, 2000: United States Congressmen formally condemns what they call the assassination of Fr John Kaiser. They expressed scepticism about the Kenya Government’s investigation of the death in August of the American priest. They also passed a resolution calling for an independent investigation into the death, and those of five other clerics which they say had not been sufficiently investigated. In addition the Congressmen in the 435-member House of Representatives also called on Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to report to it by December 15 on the progress of the Kenyan Government’s investigations and of any independent investigations.
