May 24, 1984: The chairman of the Njonjo Judicial Commission of Inquiry, Justice C.H.E. Miller, orders that a witness summons be issued to former Deputy Public Prosecutor Sharad Rao (left). The order followed an application from the lead counsel assisting the commission, Lee Muthoga (right), who said that police officers assisting the commission had recorded a statement from Mr Rao and informed him that he was a material witness in the inquiry. Here, the two lawyers and their client Kamlesh Pattni outside Nairobi Law Court after the hearing of the Goldenberg scandal case, in which the businessman was a major suspect, in October 1995.
