October 23, 1987: Mr. Alfred Sambu (right), the chairman of the AFC Leopards Sports Club blames the Kenya Football Federation for his downfall. At the same time, he appealed to the Government to appoint an independent body to determine the truth over his five-year ban by the Confederation of African Football. Mr. Sambu was on Wednesday ordered by the KFF to cease being an official of any football club affiliated to the KFF. The order came in the wake of charges by the CAF that Mr. Sambu tried to bribe a Zimbambwean referee, Mr Frank Valdermaker, to “fix” a match between Leopards and National SC of Egypt last May. Mr. Sambu denied the charges. CAF suspended him for five years and banned for life three referees – Mr. Peter Wanyama, Mr Protus Makokha and Mr Yusur Omar. On Wednesday, the KFF ruled that Mr. Sambu would not be allowed to hold elective office in any soccer club until 1992.
