February 22, 1971:Mrs. Miria Obote (right) wife of Uganda’s deposed President Dr. Apollo Milton Obote (holding baby) flew into Nairobi’s Wilson Airport without fanfare. Accompanied’ by her three child The small private aircraft carrying Mrs. Obote and her children touched down at about 5.40 p.m. They were met by Mrs. Winfred Nyiva Mwendwa (left), wife of Kenya’s Chief Justice, Kitili Mwendwa (second right) It was reported earlier from Kampala that Mrs. Obote was expected to take off for Nairobi from the police airstrip at Naguru, in Uganda at 1 p.m. However, she did not arrive at the airstrip until after 4 p.m. Mrs. Obote told reporters before her departure that she was not going to Dar-es-Salaam to meet her husband but was coming to Nairobi on a private visit. ‘ Dr. Obote has been living in Tanzania since the coup . A week ago, Uganda’s Military Head of State. Gen. Idi Amin said Mrs. Obote was at liberty to leave the country to rejoin her husband at any time.
