May 10, 2003: Vice-President Michael Christopher Kijana Wamalwa marries his beautiful sweetheart, Yvonne Nambia, at a colourful wedding attended by President Kibaki and First Lady Lucy. The bride was driven to St Austin’s Church, Lavington, Nairobi, in great style. She arrived in a sparkling dark blue vintage 1928 Ford Tudor, the 1998 winner of the Concours d’ elegance. She was dressed in a shimmering white bridal gown and in the company of the best maid, Ms. Nancy Wettstein (right). Mr. Wamalwa, dashing in grey stripped trousers and a morning coat was escorted by the best man, Mr. Musikari Nazi Kombo(left). He was driven to church in his official limousine and a convoy of 10 other vehicles. Yvonne arrived 35 minutes later, to ululation by a group of elderly women from the VP’s home town of Kitale. The couple was married by Kitale Catholic Bishop Maurice Crowley assisted by the St Austin’s Parish priest, Fr Martin Keane. Yvonne was escorted down the aisle by her parents, Daniel and Domitilla Nafula, and Nambale MP Chris Okemo. She was driven to church from her parents’ home in Nairobi South ‘C’.
