Histo1801

January 18, 1992: An estimated half-a-million supercharged FORD supporters attends the most spectacular and electrifying public rally in Kenya’s political history. It was a spectacle to behold and as eventful as it was captivating as surprising in the potentially-crushing turn-out as it was orderly and enthusiastic. In the massive crowd were the young, the old, the lame and infirm. It was as if Kenya in microcosm went to the historic Kamukunji grounds. The Forum’s first ever licensed gathering was much more than a rally, it was a festival, there was a carnival spirit abroad as FORD supporters seized the opportunity to march in enthusiastic, emphatic and massive support for the party that, in many ways, recalls the heady days of the freedom struggle and the legendary rivalry between the now-ruling Kanu and the now-defunct Kadu.
