November 10, 1964: Kenya becomes a one-party State. The entire KADU opposition swung across to join the ruling Kanu Government. The move was heralded by scenes of jubilations in both the House of Representatives and the Senate as Kadu Senators and Mps crossed the floor to shouts of “Harambee” Here Commonwealth Colonial Secretary Duncan Sandys (right) chat cheerfully on the grounds of Government House (now State House) in February 1963. Also present are Kadu president Ronald Ngala (smoking pipe) and Governor Malcolm MacDonald.
