October 18, 1982: Kenyatta University College lecturer Maina wa Kinyatti is jailed for six years for possessing a seditious publication. Chief magistrate Abdul Raul’ found Kinyatti guilty of possessing a document headed Moi’s Divisive Tactics Exposed contrary to section 57 (2) of the Penal Code. Immediately the accused was led out of court to begin sentence, a group of women some sobbing started shouting: Maina Juu’ Maino Juu!
