May 15, 2002: The Government admitted through its Labour Ministers Mr. Joseph Kimeu Ngutu (left) that the much published jobs for Kenyans on cruise ships did not exist. It immediately ordered local agents to stop recruiting and detectives briefed on the swindle to launch full investigation. At least 10,031 Kenyans recruited for the fictitious jobs were conned out of Sh100 million. Here, the minister was in discussion with Mr. Gunther Haustedt the Friedrich Ebert Foundation project manager after opening a global workshop in Nairobi in 1998.
