September 29, 1979: New Akamba Union (NAU) chairman, Mr. Joseph Mulu Mutisya and Luo Union (EA) chairman, Mr. Oselu Nyalik come out in protest against remarks by the Minister for Cooperative Development, Mr. Paul Ngei, who was also Machakos Kanu branch chairman that tribal organizations should be disbanded. Mr. Mutisya said: “Thank God he (Mr. Ngei) is not the Attorney- General who takes care of the laws of the land. No one should take him seriously because he has no powers to ban the organizations. Here, President Jomo Kenyatta (right) gowned as an Akamba Elder, welcomes Councillor Mulu Mutisya, president of NAU who led a delegation from Kitui and Machakos to the president’s home in Gatundu on July 26, 1971.
