Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo (waving), accompanied by Assistant Minister for Health Kambi Kazungu, Mohammed Galgalo of Tana River, Mithika Linturi of Igembe South, and Basil Mwagiringo of the Coast region, among others, acknowledges the crowd upon arrival at Muliro Gardens in Kakamega during a major United Republican Party (URP) rally for Western Province on February 12, 2012. The rally endorsed him to vie for the presidency on a URP ticket, with leaders saying that the people of Western Province could unite the country because they had no enmity with other communities in Kenya. The legislators also said that Kenyans should accord President Mwai Kibaki a dignified retirement and urged that those involved in the alleged embezzlement of funds under the Kazi Kwa Vijana programme be held accountable or face the law, since the funds belonged to Kenyan taxpayers.
