Description

July 26, 1990: Gitobu Imanyara who emerged from detention on Wednesday into the hands of CID is charged in court with sedition. The lawyer-cum journalist, who edits The Nairobi Law Monthly also faced two counts of failing to comply with provisions of sections 7(1) and 8(1) of Books and Newspapers Act. He denied the two counts but was not required to plead to the sedition charges as consent to prosecute had not been obtained from the Attorney General Chambers.
