June 22, 1990: Ex-Vice President Joseph Anthony Zuzarte Murumbi (Right) dies at 79 at his home in Riara Road, Nairobi. Mr. Murumbi was appointed Vice-President May 1966 following the resignation of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in April 1966. He resigned on September 21, 1966. Mr. Murumbi had asked to be relieved of his duties because of poor health. Here, Mr. Murumbi (Right) was meeting Mr. Stewart Udall, United States Secretary of Interior when he arrived in Nairobi from Tanganyika in 1963.
