Kenya will soon join the league of Nations that mines Thorium and Nickel-Cobalt as the government is set to roll out the process of confirming critical minerals in 15 counties. Kitui, West Pokot and Homabay are among the 15 counties earmarked by the Kenyan government as the counties with the highest prospects of the identified minerals. Speaking after a consultative meeting with governors from 15 counties which have been earmarked as the most endowed counties with minerals, Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya said the government through Geophysical survey have identified 970 mineral occurrences across the 47 counties. “We have concluded the GO survey process, and the project has identified a total of 970 Potential Prospects for further scrutiny. These Prospects feature industrial minerals, base metals, precious metals, rare earths & radio-active minerals, gemstones, construction & building materials, and geothermal resources. This number is likely to increase at completion of the entire country landmass”, Said Mr. Mvurya.
