March 27, 1989: History repeats itself at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi, when Italian Massimo Biasion (left) wins the 37th Safari Rally followed home by Kenya’s Mike Kirkland. The two finished in the same order last year driving similar cars. Clad in in all beige strip with the words Martini, Lancia, Marlboro and Michelin emblazoned all over it, Biasion and Tiziano Siviero, driving the Lancia Delta Integrale car No 2 told newsmen they did not expect to win the rally this year. “I am satisfied because the, road conditions were terrible, “the 31-year-old Italian told a press conference. “The last leg was the worst,” he said.
