Histo0212

December 2, 1989: Mr. and Mrs. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta serve a piece of their wedding cake to President Moi during a reception at their Gatundu home. The reception followed a wedding ceremony at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi. Advising the newlyweds to maintain the love they had demonstrated at their wedding, President Moi said that a strong family was the foundation of a strong nation. .The President told Mr. Kenyatta and the former Miss Margaret Wanjiru Gakuo that a wedding day was a special occasion in one’s lite and that in marriage, each partner had a special responsibility to the other and to their children. Wishing the couple a happy married life, President Moi praised the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Mama Ngina Kenyatta for instilling in their children good manners which had made them humble and obedient. Mr. Uhuru (now the President) is a son of the late president and Mama Ngina, while his bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Njuguna Gakuo.
