September 18, 2002: Mwai Kibaki enters his third presidential race as the Opposition alliance unveils its General Election line-up. The Democratic Party chairman will lead the National Alliance Party of Kenya’s charge with Mr Michael Wamalwa earmarked for vice-president and Mrs. Charity Ngilu to be prime minister. Six hours of intensive negotiations finally ends a deadlock over the premier’s post, which would have delayed the Alliance’s long awaited announcement.
