October 8, 1981: Mr. Udi Gecaga, Former Lonrho East Africa chairman files a suit for the recovery of 117,298/- from the company. And Lonrho have filed a counter claim for 640,173/30 against him him. Mr. Gecaga who also alleges he was a former managing director of the firm, has claimed in his civil suit in the High Court that the money was in respect of unpaid salary and other expenses. But the company says the counter claim is in respect of unauthorised claims made by Mr. Gecaga when he was a company employee. The Company’s lawyer Mr. Ian Harris told Justice J. O . Nyarangi the company denies that any of the said payment were legitimately made or were connected in anyway with its business. Mr. Harris said Mr. Gecaga’s claim for Ksh 293/= for the International Casino does not relate to the Companies Business, Another claim for Ksh 12,000/= for a trip overseas does not disclose any connection with the defendants business.The Plaint said that the agreement provided that the defendant could give Mr. Gecaga 12 months before terminating his employment and he would be entitled to the benefit of all his other emoluments, entitlements, privileges and perquisites until expiry of the said notice period.
