Description

July 13, 1969: The Kenya Cabinet thanked both the police and the public for the restraint they showed during a” difficult week” following the assassination of Mr. Tom Mboya on 5 July 1969 in Nairobi. President Kenyatta presided over a special meeting of the Cabinet at his Gatundu home to review the situation in Kenya. In a statement issued at the conclusion of the meeting, the Cabinet expressed the hope that all Kenyans would continue to exercise restraint. Meanwhile, a Kenya Police spokesman said there were no new developments in the hunt for Mr. Mboya’s killer. Here, President Jomo Kenyatta (second from left) pictured at the Cabinet meeting with, from left. Mr. Mbiyu Koinange, Dr. Njoroge Mungai, Mr. Paul Ngei, Dr. J. Gikonyo Kiano, Mr. Mwai Kibaki, Mr. Jeremiah Nyagah (rear) and an official in Gatundu on July 13, 1969.
