December 10, 1991: Former Nakuru District Commissioner Jonah Orao Anguka is charged with the murder of Dr. John Robert Ouko. He was not required to take plea and was remanded at the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison to await consent to prosecute from the Attorney-General. The former DC, who was not handcuffed was brought before Chief Magistrate Babu Achieng at 5:15pm and was escorted from the High Court cells by four uniformed policemen. Mr. Anguka was earlier escorted to the Nairobi law courts front door by a plain cloth policemen who took him to the cells where he was booked. The charge said that on or about February 14 1990 at Got Alila in Kisumu District jointly with others not before court, murdered Dr. Ouko.

As soon as the charge was read and explained to Mr. Anguka, a lawyer Mr. Assa Nyakundi told the magistrate that he and a Nakuru lawyer Mr. Pravin Bowry would represent the accused. He was later acquitted of murder charges in July 1994.
