February 9, 1987: Two men are charged with violently robbing the late Minister for Finance Mr. Stephen Achiya Echakara  of a Peugeot 404 pick-up. Mr. Echakara died on January 26 at a Nairobi Hospital where he had stayed unconscious following an assault off Langata, road in Nairobi. Gibson Njau Macharia and Peter Kamande Murigi denied that they also robbed Mrs Margaret Namwaki Musungu. When they appeared before the Chief Magistrate Mr. HH Buch, Mr. Macharia and Mr. Murigi were not represented. It was alleged that on January 15 they jointly not in court robbed the assistant minister of the car worth Ksh 70,000. The charge said that at the time of the robbery they violently attacked mr. Echakara. The prosecutor Supt. Joseph Mathenge, told the court that before the hearing date was fixed the prosecution would apply for the case to be mentioned after 2 weeks to enable prosecution to complete investigations.
