November 11, 1983: Queen Elizabeth takes tea and cakes with Members of Parliament on the second day of her state visit to Kenya. Milling crowds cheered the British monarch’s progress throughout a warm and sunny day which started with a ceremony at the late President Jomo Kenyatta’s tomb. Her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, chatted with MPs he first met at independence day ceremony. After laying’ a wreath at the late President’s tomb, the Queen walked to Parliament Buildings through an enthusiastic crowd of adults and children lined up along Parliament Road. The Queen wore a pink dress and matching hat and was escorted by Vice-President Mwai Kibaki Members of Parliament, who were waiting, broke into applause as the Queen arrived and signed the visitors book. She was then introduced to Members by President Moi, who was already in the building.
