October 15, 1979: Bob Astles (right) British-born aide to deposed dictator Idi Amin Dada accuses Amin of arranging the bomb that caused the deaths of former Kenyan Agriculture Minister Bruce McKenzie and three other men. McKenzie and the other were killed in May 1978, when their light plane exploded on a flight from Uganda to Kenya. Kenyan authorities said a bomb had been placed on board when the plane was in Uganda. A spokesman for Amin denied it. The deaths caused a furore in Kenya. McKenzie had often travelled to Uganda on business and retained close ties with top government figures both in Uganda and Kenya. Astles in magistrate’s court for a routine appearance in connection with a murder charge gave reporters a hand written statement about Mckenzie death. Astles did not give details of any evidence but said his own life was threatened in a car ambush after he has said goodbye to McKenzie at Entebbe Airport. Seen here with Mr. Joginder Singh Sokhi assistant Commissioner of Police in June 1979.
