June 18, 1984: Bill Parkinson, the chairman of the Safari Rally limited admits that he misled the Government about the plane scheduled to fly the Seychellois Cabinet in –exile to the island in November 1981. Mr. Parkinson admitted before the Charles Mugane Njonjo Judicial Commission of Inquiry that he gave false information to the Special Branch, the Civil Aviation Board, and Sunbird Aviation Limited. Only five people in Kenya, he said knew about the flight from Kenya to the Seychelles scheduled to take place after the coup attempt against the Government of President Albert Rene. Mr. Parkinson told the inquiry he suspected the plane was going to be involved in an uprising yet he still submitted false information to the three institutions to facilitate the flight. Mr. Parkinson also admitted he was to get Ksh 50,000 if the flight materialised. He also admitted having purchased a ticket for Capt. Leonard to fly from London to Nairobi so that he could accompany Capt. Shraft on the Seychelles flight which never materialized. Photo|Nation Syndication
