April 17, 1985: President Moi sacks the Minister for Health Mr. Gilbert Kabeere M’Mbijjewe, from the Cabinet. In a mini-reshuffle broadcasted over the Voice of Kenya (VoK) radio during the lunch time news bulletin, also announced that Mr. Jackson Harvester Angaine is reappointed to the Cabinet as Minister of State in the President’s Office. The sacking of Mr. M’Mbijjewe (55) followed heavy criticisms and allegations of scandal against the outgoing Minister. Mr. Angaine (83) who is the Meru district branch chairman of the ruling party, is M’Mbijjewe’s arch-rival in Meru politics. And a Minister in the Office of the President, Mr. Peter Nyakiamo, was shifted to the Ministry of Health to take over from Mr. M’Mbijjewe. On March 27, Bahati MP Fred Omido tabled documents in Parliament purportedly signed by the outgoing Minister and a Mr. M’Rithaa M’ Kanampiu, Mr. H.B . Devani claiming that M’ Mbijjewe was involved in Sh2.4million scandal. The document said the Minister had signed a deal with PAC Laboratories Ltd in which he would pocket the money after the sale of PAC drugs to the Ministry of Health. Photo|Nation Syndication
