April 7, 1997: Kenya’s cricket team qualifies for the 1999 World Cup after a thrilling victory over Ireland in the semi-final of the ICC Trophy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The win also saw Kenya qualify for the final of the ICC Trophy which will be played this Saturday in Kuala Lumpur. This is the second straight time for Kenya to qualify for the World Cup, the world’s greatest one-day cricket showcase. Kenya finished runners-up to the United Arab Emirates in the 1994 ICC Trophy in Nairobi to make their debut in last year’s World Cup which was jointly hosted by India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
